The Khanqah is a place which is associated with Sufism and spirituality. It is commonly associated with the term Bay'ah (pledge of allegiance)
Bay'ah has been established from our Nabi Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam where an oath to remain steadfast upon Deen or a certain action was taken from the Sahab Radhi Allahu Anhum.
The practice of Bay'ah has ever since been preserved and continued through a authentic chain to aid individuals to stay steadfast upon the religion through guidance.
Those who have been given the permission to guide others are known as Shaikh whilst the follower, who is seeking the guidance and spirituality, is known as a Mureed.
The Khanqah is involved in many activities which aim to act as a spiritual guidance to the Muslim community. These activities involve the publishing of books and leaflets relating to spiritual diseases, discourses highlighting solutions for spiritual illnesses and general guidance to individuals who want to gain the proximity of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala through the means of Sufism
Shaykh Maulana Adam Saheb holds regular Duroos (discourses) as well as Dhikr Majlis (gathering).
The Arabic term Zaawiyah is known in Persian and Urdu as Khanqah. Zaawiyah literally means ‘a corner’ which denotes the dedication of those who sought the pleasure of Allah by devoting themselves and detaching themselves from the world in one corner.
This term thereafter became more general to that place which was dedicated in aiding people who sought reformation and wanted to cleanse themselves of the undignified sins which are attributed towards a person’s soul and heart.
The struggle against one’s Self (Nafs) is generally given the name of Tasawwuf and Tazkiyah, a reality that existed in the time of our Beloved Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam without a name. The one who practices this science of Tasawwuf is known as a Saalik or Sufi.
